Academy Events Presents: AlestormIn 2004 in a small town in eastern Scotland, a bunch of lads decided to start an epic metal band with songs about pirates. That band was called Battleheart and they had no idea what they were doing, but they managed to release a couple of demos and get a bit of a local following. In 2007, the band’s work caught the attention of world-renowned Austrian record label Napalm Records, and after changing their name to Alestorm, the band was signed for a 5 album record deal. The debut album Captain Morgan’s Revenge released in 2008 instantly catapulted the band to fame in the European metal world, leading to massive tours supporting famous bands such as Turisas, Sabaton, Dragonforce, Eluveitie, and more. The band quickly found themselves being booked for the most prestigious festivals in Europe, such as Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock Open Air, Graspop Metal Meeting, and Sweden Rock Festival.
Alestorm’s reputation continued to spread over the years following the release of their 2nd album Black Sails at Midnight in 2009, leading to worldwide tours across all of North America, Australia, and Europe. Several albums and successful festival appearances followed.
Alestorm’s popularity and critical acclaim increased greatly after the release of the 2017 album No Grave But the Sea, now with a stable lineup of Christopher Bowes (vocals), Mate Bodor (guitars), Gareth Murdock (bass), Elliot Vernon (keyboards) and Peter Alcorn (drums). The band scored several top 10 charting positions across the world, and quickly found themselves routinely playing sold out headline shows to over 2000 people a night, across every continent on earth, cementing their reputation as the best live band in the world.
The COVID pandemic did not stop the ambitions of the band, as they released their most ambitious album Curse of the Crystal Coconut in 2020, followed by a critically acclaimed Live DVD Live in Tilburg in 2021, which was filmed in front of an audience of over 3000 insane fans. In summer of 2022, the band released their 7th and latest album Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum, which managed to hit Number 1 in the Hungarian album charts for 2 weeks straight and stayed in the top 10 for several more. After the release, Alestorm embarked on the biggest festival and concert tour of their career, including a massive European headlining tour in January 2023 playing to as many as 4600 people every night. Alestorm are the best pirate metal band in the world.

Parking for Gigs is in the Main Car Park. At the entry barrier please press the green button to take a token. When you leave, take your car straight to the exit barrier and insert your token at the barrier for exit. There is no need to make payment. Dropping Off - please drop off those attending gigs in the Main Car Park. The LCR is only a 2 minute walk from the car park. At the entry barrier please take a token - you have 15 minutes free parking from the time you take the token to when you place it in the exit barrier after dropping off. Picking up - when collecting those who have attended a Gig, please do so from the Main Car Park. At the entry barrier take a token and when you leave insert your token at the exit barrier. There is no need to make payment. Please make sure that you do not lose your car park token as a lost token fee is £12. Please do not try to drop off and pick up outside the LCR or in Union Place as this area is usually cordoned off on a Gig Night for pedestrian safety, and can become congested very quickly.

The venue is accessible for wheelchairs.

To enter the venue customers will need to provide ONE of the following: • Show proof of a full vaccination, remember second dose must be at least 14 days prior to the event, via NHS App or card. Valid photo ID matching ticketholder must also be provided if presenting vaccination card. Or, • Natural immunity, based upon a positive PCR test within 180 days of the event and the result shown on NHS App Or, • A negative lateral flow test, same day as event, results registered www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result. Lateral flow tests must be taken prior to attending the show, the venue will not be providing any lateral flow tests to allow entry.

Age limits for the LCR are 14 and over for gigs, 18 and over for club nights.
