His rhythmic drive and deep knowledge of blues and early jazz made him a sought-after collaborator during the swing era in New York and beyond.Returning to New Orleans later in life, Barker became a passionate cultural ambassador and mentor. In 1970 he founded the Fairview Baptist Church Brass Band, guiding and inspiring a new generation of musiciansincluding future stars of the citys brass band revival. Through his performances, mentorship, and writings, Barker preserved and revitalized traditional New Orleans jazz, ensuring that its spirit, repertoire, and storytelling traditions would endure for generations to come.The Danny Barker tribute band, let by master artist, Detroit Brooks pays tribute to Barkers musical legacy and for this performance they will be joined by special guest, Cynthia Sayer. A leading figure in traditional and swing jazz, she has performed at major festivals, concert halls, and clubs around the world, helping to redefine the banjo as a dynamic and expressive front-line instrument. Sayer has appeared on film and television soundtracks, toured extensively as a bandleader and soloist, and earned praise for both her virtuosic musicianship and engaging performances.
