The Eleanor Roosevelt Center and Pen America present the 2025 Eleanor Roosevelt Banned Book Awards. The ceremony will celebrate authors who have championed intellectual freedom and the fight against censorship during Banned Books Week 2025, October 5-11, an annual event that highlights the freedom to read and the attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. The Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Bravery in Literature recognizes authors whose works advance human rights amid a surge in book bans and censorship. Ten honorees include best-selling author Margaret Atwood (The Handmaid?s Tale). At the ceremony, the authors will be joined on stage by leaders in the field?Jennifer Finney Boylan, Author and President of PEN America, Deborah Caldwell Stone, Dir. of the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom, and Cameron Samuels, Ex. Dir. of Students Engaged in Advancing Texas (SEAT). join us in celebrating authors and activists who are bravely fighting against cencorship.
