Emerging from Newark, New Jersey, (DoItAll, Mr. Funke )and Cleveland,Ohio (DJ Lord Jazz) Lords of the Underground burst onto the scene in the early 90’s with their groundbreaking debut Here Come the Lords (1993), featuring golden-age hits like “Chief Rocka” and “Funky Child.” With DoItAll’s dynamic energy, Mr. Funke’s gritty delivery, and Dj Lord Jazz’s technical turntablism, they became a defining East Coast trio, known for tight chemistry and substantive lyricism.
Under the tutelage of Marley Marl and K-Def, LOTUG delivered a string of classic records. Their sophomore Keepers of the Funk (1994) further cemented their place in hip-hop lore. Resurrection (1999), House of Lords (2007) ,Lotug 20 (2014) Some solo albums, the trio never lost their core audience or their credibility. In April2025, LOTUG released their long-awaited album So Legendary, fully produced by Snowgoons. This ten-track record embraces boom-bap authenticity while introducing fresh sonic textures, and it’s widely praised as their strongest work in decades.
The trio's individual pursuits continue to shine. DoltAll expanded into acting and civic leadership-elected Newark's first platinum selling artist to win the West Ward in June 2022 and also has released solo projects American Du,Brenda’s Son and Alma. Mr. Funke has continued to work all over the world writing, producing and featuring on projects with international artists. He released his solo project DXM Part 1 in 2018. Dj Lord Jazz stays culturally active as the host of a global mix show, managing his daughter Dj Glo , touring as a Dj and producing other acts while being a behind the scenes curator of hip-hop history and has released solo albums The Plain Dealer 1 and 2 and also the LordTrilla series.
A landmark moment came in December 2024, when the National Hip-Hop Museum in Washington, D.C. inducted Lords of the Underground into its Hall of Fame during its large-scale Hip-Hop Holiday Honors event-joining icons like Marley Marl, DJ Jazzy Jay, Kool Moe Dee, and others. Lotug's induction underscored their enduring impact on the culture.With So Legendary, The Hip Hop Hall of Fame honor,and thriving solo pursuits, Lords of the Underground havereaffirmed their legendary status-underground in name only, timeless in influence
