Line-up:
Miguel Gorodi - Trumpet
Sam Braysher - Alto saxophone
Tom Farmer - Double bass
David Ingamells - Drum kit
About:
After several years pursuing other projects, the quartet co-led by Miguel Gorodi and Sam Braysher reunites for a rare performance exploring the art of the contrafact — new melodies written over the harmonic frameworks of classic jazz standards.
Drawing on a tradition associated with figures such as Charlie Parker, Lennie Tristano and Coleman Hawkins, the band performs original contrafacts alongside pieces by composers including Ben Webster, Horace Silver and Warne Marsh among others.
Expect inventive melodies, swinging interplay and a fresh take on some of jazz’s most enduring harmonic foundations.
