Colour of Fire is an alternative rock band from York, England, known for their intense live shows, anthemic songwriting and eclectic sound. Formed in late 2001 by co-songwriters Owen Brinley and Stuart Jones, the band quickly gained national attention after Steve Lamacq played their debut single “Decisions, Decisions” on BBC Radio One.
They soon signed to Riverman Records, recorded two sessions at Maida Vale for Mary Anne Hobbs’ Radio One Rock Show, and were named Zane Lowe's "Single of the Week" on XFM. Their second single, “Cut It”, received regular rotation on MTV2, as the band went on to tour extensively across the UK, Europe and Japan. They played over 200 shows together between 2002 and 2005, sharing stages with Placebo, The Libertines, The Bronx, Biffy Clyro, Korn, Idlewild, Sonic Youth, The Kills, The Icarus Line, Silverchair, Sparta and many others.
In 2003, they recorded their debut album 'Pearl Necklace' with producer Steve Osborne (Placebo/Elbow/U2) at Rockfield and Real World Studios. The album was released in 2004by Riverman in the UK, PIAS in Europe and King Records in Japan. That same year, the band toured Europe extensively with Placebo. In 2005, they disbanded to pursue other projects. Owen went on to form the highly acclaimed Grammatics (recently name-checked in the Yard Act in the song 'We Make Hits'), Department M and Too Much Future. Stuart moved to Berlin, forming Die Zerstörten and later House of Spiders. Matt has been the drummer for Placebo since 2016 and has also worked with other major artists. In 2023, Colour of Fire reformed, playing sold-out shows in York and London. The band recently completed work on their long-awaited second album, ‘All The Wolves I Have Known’, with producer Andy Hawkins (Maximo Park/The Damned/Scream/Marmozets/Blood Red Shoes). 'AllThe Wolves I Have Known' is scheduled for release in spring 2026
