Brenda Fricker, who famously played the Pigeon Lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Daniel Day Lewis’ on-screen mother in My Left Foot, has died at the age of 81.
For her performance in My Left Foot, Fricker won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first Irish-born actress ever to win an Oscar.
Her other notable film roles included So I Married an Axe Murder, Angels in the Outfield, and A Time to Kill.
In the latter half of her career, Fricker increasingly opted for more roles in UK, Irish, and Canadian productions, including Inside I’m Dancing, Closing the Ring, Albert Nobbs, and Cloudburst.
Fricke passed away Thursday, July 16th, following a period of ill health. “We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her,” her agent, Phil Belfield, said in a statement. “I was honored to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.”
