In the new trailer for DC Studios’ Clayface, former actor Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries) is desperate to escape the scars on his face. The solution to his problem, though, includes some side effects — like, you know, his face starting to melt. The movie, directed by James Watkins and co-written by modern horror maestro Mike Flanagan, uses the origin story of one of Batman’s famous villains as the set-up for what looks to be a genuinely creepy body horror tale.
According to the official description, courtesy of Warner Bros.:
“Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”
In addition to Rhys Harries, the cast includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan. The movie comes out October 23rd. Check out the new trailer below — hopefully Clayface can turn things around for DC, following the disappointment of this summer’s Supergirl.
