Donkey, a Shrek spinoff movie centering on the origins of Eddie Murphy’s title character, is officially in development from DreamWorks Animation and is set for a theatrical release on Friday, June 30th, 2028.
The film will be directed by Charlie Bean (The Lego Batman Movie) with Matt Flynn, who worked on other DreamWorks projects including The Wild Robot, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and The Bad Guys 2.
Meanwhile, Shrek 5 is still on track to hit theaters on June 30th, 2027. The most recent teaser trailer saw Donkey himself get excited about “tightening up his badonkadonk.”
