Apple Original Films has revealed that its fully authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary will make its global premiere on Apple TV on January 29th, 2027.

Titled Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, the film was directed by Frank Marshall and will look back at Fleetwood Mac’s origins and the ups and downs of their long history through never-before-seen footage and exclusive new interviews. A five-time Academy Award nominee, Marshall has previously helmed documentaries on The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, and Carole King and James Taylor.

A press release confirms the documentary’s title was inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic “The Chain,” the only song on Rumours credited to all five members of the legendary rock group. Its premiere coincides with the 50th anniversary of Rumours, which was released in February 1977.

According to the official description, Fleetwood Mac: The Chain will see Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks “reflect on their uncompromising 50-plus-year history” from their “fortuitous meeting in 1974” to the present.

“The film explores how the band’s trials and tribulations, personal resilience, and musical dexterity combined to create songs that have stood the test of time and are enduring masterpieces,” the synopsis reads. “It takes fans through the highs and lows of their brilliant career, illuminating the exceptional ingredients each member brought to the band’s uncommon alchemy — a musical union that sold more than 220 million records worldwide. The documentary explores what allowed this combination of artists to create singular musical work again and again, and what drew them back together and held them there when every possible pressure, both outside and inside the band, threatened to blow them apart.”

This past August, Buckingham credited his work with Nicks on the documentary (and the recent reissue of Buckingham Nicks) with helping them thaw a years-long frosty relationship. He said they were now “talking all the time,” adding, “Next year should be a pretty interesting year… because I think quite a few things will reveal themselves.”
