Foo Fighters were the latest guests to appear on the web show Hot Ones Versus, where all six members sat at a table togther to share stories, play mini-games, and eat some very, very spicy wings.
The game followed each Foo Fighters member as they posed personal questions to each other — if they answered honestly, they could skip eating the wings, but if they declined to answer or told a lie, they’d have to eat one. Across five rounds, there was a lot revealed: Dave Grohl confirmed that there is indeed an unreleased Foo Fighters rap song titled “That Ass” which will likely never see the light of day, and he also revealed that he had a bad case of diarrhea after drinking Slovenian tap water before a show.
Grohl also shared a story about how David Bowie once told him over email to “fuck off.” Grohl had reached out to Bowie asking him to contribute to a film soundtrack, and Bowie claimed it wasn’t the right fit; Grohl then responded thanking Bowie anyways, and Bowie replied with, “Well, that’s settled then. Now fuck off.”
The rest of the episode featured more hilarity from the Foos. Pat Smear struggled to come up with Jenna Ortega’s name, Grohl identified his “cringiest lyric” that he’s ever written (his answer comes from the 2005 cut “D.O.A.”), Chris Shiflett ranked the other members of Foo Fighters’ prior bands (Rami Jaffee’s The Wallflowers were at #1, while Nate Mendel’s Sunny Day Real Estate came in fourth), and Ilan Rubin took a wing for the team instead of coming up with an alternate band name to pitch to Grohl. The episode concluded with a rather silly game of musical chairs. Of course, there were many wings consumed — and at least one half-nugget, in Shiflett’s case. Though it serves as the Foo Fighters’ first appearance as a band on Hot Ones, Grohl was actually a guest back in 2022 supporting the band’s horror comedy film Studio 666. This time around, however, Grohl’s bandmates have joined; the band are fresh off their new album Your Favorite Toy, and have recently appeared on Colbert, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series, and Track Star.
Foo Fighters also have a major 2026 tour coming up; they’ll headline Bottlerock in Napa Valley this weekend, and will embark on a stadium run alongside Queens of the Stone Age beginning in August. Get tickets to see Foo Fighters here.
