Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament has collected his personal photograph archive into a new book, Since Forever, out September 25th in select independent bookstores and on the band’s website.
According to Ament, 90% of the more than 250 black-and-white photographs in the 9-inch by 12-inch hardcover volume have never been seen before, offering a rare and intimate look at Pearl Jam’s early years in the 1990s.
In a press release, Since Forever is described as “a deeply personal visual journal of creativity, friendship, and life on the road.” Accompanying the collection of backstage, in-studio, and other candid shots are Ament’s own “wry insights, observations, and personal reflections.”
“If there was a goal, it was mostly to save the failing 30-year-old negatives. It was [my brother] Barry’s idea to make a book,” Ament explained in a statement. “Historically, my family will often get together by creating some kind of project or job. And in some ways, putting together this book was a job for Barry and me — a reason to hang out. Most of these photos are from 1990 to 1998. He was there for a lot of it. If he wasn’t, he was next door or a phone call away.”
Pre-orders for Since Forever are available now at Pearl Jam’s website. Ament will soon announce book events in select cities. Before that, the Ament brothers are slated to discuss the book on the Storytellers Stage at Pearl Jam’s Ohana Festival on September 25th and 27th.
The three-day Ohana Festival is set to take place September 25th through 27th, and will feature the debut of Pearl Jam’s new “mystery” drummer. Pearl Jam will headline the final evening of the event, which also features topliners Eddie Vedder & Friends and Tyler Childers. Other notable acts include Fontaines D.C., Alabama Shakes, Billy Idol, Rilo Kiley, Pixies, Bad Religion, and Maná.
