Mystikal has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a lesser charge in a 2022 rape case.
According to WBRZ, the victim appeared in court on Tuesday, June 16th, and asked the judge for a maximum sentence. She cited the incident in which Mystikal “choked her, pulled braids out of her hair, and forcibly raped her.”
After she spoke, the rapper (real name Michael Tyler) told the courtroom, “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence.”
Mystikal had faced a life sentence after being indicted in September 2022 on charges of first-degree rape, criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, simple robbery, and drug possession.
However, he pleaded down to third-degree rape this past March, capping his maximum sentence at 20 years for the 2022 incident in Ascension Parish, Louisiana.
Days before the sentencing, however, Mystikal’s attorney attempted to withdraw the guilty plea, claiming he “did not have sufficient opportunity to fully consider the consequences.” The motion said he was “under significant emotional distress and felt substantial pressure to make an immediate decision.”
This wasn’t Mystikal’s first time being arrested for sexual assault or even being sentenced to prison. He spent six years in state prison beginning in 2004 after pleading guilty to sexual battery and extortion, and was registered as a sex offender upon his release.
In 2012, Mystikal was jailed for three months on misdemeanor domestic abuse charges. He was again arrested for rape in 2017 and was held in custody for nearly two years until he was able to post bond. The charge was later dropped due to a lack of evidence.
