Nick Reiner had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and was taking medication that made him “erratic and dangerous” in the weeks leading up to the murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Singer, according to TMZ.

TMZ adds that Reiner’s medications were changed three to four weeks before his parents’ killings, which allegedly coincided with a worsening of his behavior, and that substance abuse issues may have compounded the situation.

Reiner has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held without bail. He has not yet entered a plea, though TMZ reports he is expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity. His next hearing is set for January 7th.
