Otoboke Beaver have issued an apology after guitarist Yoyoyoshie threw her axe into the crowd during a show in Osaka, striking a fan who required seven stitches.
The incident occurred during the Japanese punk rocker’s April 9th performance at Umeda Club Quattro. According to a statement shared by Otoboke Beaver on Tuesday, August 11th, Yoyoyoshie’s guitar hit an audience member, who was subsequently taken to the hospital with injuries that included a laceration to the forehead and a sprain.

The band also apologized for waiting four months to publicly address the incident, acknowledging that communication between the group and staff following the show had not been handled quickly enough. “We accept the incident seriously and deeply apologize,” the band’s translated statement reads. Otoboke Beaver added that the injured fan had been subjected to additional “burden and heartache” because of the delay in their response.
Otoboke Beaver said they will continue working directly with the fan as they recover and stressed that responsibility for both the accident and its aftermath rests with the band rather than the venue staff who were working that night. They also promised to prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The April concert came during a run of Japanese shows surrounding the release of Is the New Album Out Yet?, which the band had announced one day earlier alongside the new song “I Don’t Need to Be in Your Strike Zone,” later named one of Consequence’s best songs of the week.
