Residente appears to be signaling that filming has begun on Porto Rico, his directorial debut starring Bad Bunny in his first leading movie role.
The Calle 13 co-founder shared an Instagram Story on Monday showing a production slate for Porto Rico, listing his real name, René Pérez Joglar, as director and Anthony Dod Mantle as cinematographer. The post did not include a formal announcement, but strongly suggested that cameras are now rolling.
The film is described as a Caribbean Western and historical drama centered on Puerto Rico. Bad Bunny leads a cast that also includes Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem, while Alejandro G. Iñárritu serves as executive producer.
Residente previously told Deadline that Bad Bunny initially expressed interest in taking a small role before eventually becoming the film’s lead. “It just makes total sense for him to be this character,” he said. “It feels perfect.”
