Tori Amos paid tribute to Glen Hansard during her concert at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion on Friday night, performing the Swell Season’s “Falling Slowly” in memory of the late Irish musician. Hansard co-wrote “Falling Slowly” with Markéta Irglová, his collaborator in the Swell Season. After initially appearing on the duo’s 2006 self-titled album, the ballad became the centerpiece of their film Once and earned the pair the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008. Hansard died in a motorcycle crash in Dublin on July 29th.
Amos joins a growing list of artists and public figures who have remembered Hansard since his death. President of Ireland Catherine Connolly, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Ellis, and Sharon Van Etten were among those who shared tributes, while Barack Obama opened his 2026 summer playlist with Hansard’s “Song of Good Hope.”
Footage of Hansard’s final performance also emerged, showing the singer playing guitar alongside local musicians during a traditional music session at the Wren’s Nest pub in Dublin just hours before the crash.
A public wake for Hansard is being held in Dublin on August 3rd, followed by a funeral service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on August 4th.
