100 gecs

American music duo 100 gecs was formed in 2015 by Laura Les and Dylan Brady. The two grew up in close proximity in suburbs around St. Louis, but would not collaborate until Les had moved to Chicago. In July of 2016, the duo released their debut self-titled EP.

The group would not work together again due to a lack of time until 2019, when they worked together for a Minecraft festival. Following this, Les and Brady created enough music to release an album, and their debut record, 1000 gecs was released. The album helped to form the genre hyperpop, with its unique and innovative style of extreme pop music, inspired in part by the label PC Music.

In 2020, the band saw a continued rise to fame, with scheduled live performances, a remix album, and headlining another Minecraft festival. The band toured extensively throughout the final quarter of 2021 and performed at numerous festivals in 2022. In September of 2022, the band announced their sophomore album, 10,000 gecs. The record, released in March of 2023, saw a shift away from the autotune-dominated soundscapes of 1000 gecs, and a heavier rock influence. The album, still definitely true to the artists' roots, saw further experimentation and maturity.
