Dead & Company

Dead & Company is an American rock band formed in 2015. Consisting of former members of Grateful Dead, singer-songwriter John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, the group assembled following an episode of The Late Late Show, where Mayer played guest host. During the show, Mayer brought out Grateful Dead’s John Weir, and after striking up a good rapport, the group came to fruition. Weir and Mayer were joined by former Grateful Dead members Micky Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, as well as Burbridge and Chimenti.

Dead & Company’s first live performance came in 2015 on Halloween at Madison Square Garden, which was initially the only show the band would perform. In February 2016, the group announced a full summer tour before performing at Bonnaroo Music Festival, their first festival. Later that year, they announced a summer tour for 2017 which began in May and concluded in July. A few months after the end of their summer effort, Dead & Company returned with a fall tour in November.

The year 2018 saw the band play their first ever Playing in the Sand concerts in Mexico in February for three dates before heading back on tour with another lineup of summer performances. A year later, they returned with the "Dead & Company Summer Tour 2019,” as well as a shorter fall tour afterwards.

Before having their tour dates of 2020 canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dead & Company were able to perform at Playing in the Sand. They returned in 2021 for a national tour where Krutzmann was missing due to illness. Once again, the band’s efforts to perform in 2022 were canceled due to another spike in coronavirus cases.

The band returned for a national concert following those cancellations in the summer while announcing that their upcoming tour in 2023 will be the band’s last. Dead & Company never recorded any original music; however, their live performances can be found on streaming services.
