English punk band Idles was formed in Bristol in 2009. The band spent eight years honing their craft, releasing a couple of EPs along the way, before releasing their debut album, Brutalism, in 2017. The album was noteworthy for its blending of punk and post-punk, blurring the line between the two already entangled genres. Frontman Joe Talbot also earned attention for his unique lyrical style, featuring a plain-spoken style of political fury.
Their next release, Joy as an Act of Resistance, released in 2018, would earn them a great amount of exposure and expanded on the lyrical and musical style established on Brutalism. This paved the way for their third record, Ultra Mono, to earn them their first UK number 1 album. in 2020.
The band's 2021 album, Crawler, saw a shift in sound towards a more aggressive sonic style, and featured production by Kenny Beats. The band released another record in February 2024, Tangk, continuing their collaboration with the esteemed producer.
