Connecticut indie rock band MGMT formed in 2002 by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser. Since its founding, the lineup has expanded to include drummer Will Berman, bassist Simon O’Connor, and guitarist and keyboardist James Richardson.
MGMT signed to Columbia and RED Ink in 2006, and their debut, Oracular Spectacular, came out the following year. The success of singles like "Electric Feel" and "Kids" brought the band immediate attention. In April 2010, the band released their sophomore album, Congratulations, which shifted further away from the pop-stylings of Oracular and into a more psychedelic sound. For the band's third album, they went with a self-titled that delved further into this psychedelic experimentation
The group's fourth release came out in 2018 and was titled Little Dark Age, and saw heavily influence from '80s new wave music, and took on a darker aesthetic than previous albums. The band's fifth album, Loss of Life is due for release on February 23, 2024.
