Born in Jamaica in the 20th century, Reggae made its way to the UK in the 1960s, where it was embraced by people of all backgrounds and quickly became a cultural mainstay. Its influence inspired a wave of British talent, who added their own unique styles to the genre, branching Reggae into exciting new directions. As the producer behind Janet Kay’s timeless classic “Silly Games”, Dennis Bovell helped pioneer Lovers Rock and has shaped the UK music scene for over 40 years. From forming Matumbi to working with Linton Kwesi Johnson, Steel Pulse and Marvin Gaye, Bovell’s influence spans generations. A true multi-instrumentalist and producer, his shows deliver Lovers Rock and dub with unmatched energy and style.

Britain’s reggae maestro Dennis Bovell is producer, composer, re-mixer, bandleader, Lovers Rock pioneer – and the heaviest bassist in town, pumping out the deepest of body-shaking dub grooves.



From the days of his seminal band Matumbi and the radical days of punk, Dennis continues to be a massive presence – he’s worked with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, The Slits and Linton Kwesi Johnson as well as recently releasing a full length album with the Beta Band’s Steve Mason – and live, the Dub Band’s rock-solid horns and rhythm section never fail to move and groove.
