This one-night-only event will take place at Birdland in NYC on Monday, June 8 at 7pm.Drawing from landmark productions including Gypsy, The Sound of Music, Fiorello!, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, The Music Man, Flower Drum Song, Bells Are Ringing, and Once Upon a Mattress, the program weaves together more than forty songs by legendary writers such as Jule Styne, Stephen Sondheim, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg, Leonard Bernstein, Comden and Green, and Lerner and Loewe. Highlights include Tonight, On the Street Where You Live, Climb Evry Mountain, Til There Was You, The Partys Over, and Everythings Coming Up Roses. Structured in the classic form of a Broadway evening, the concert features an Overture, Entracte, and Intermission, with a lighthearted musical salute to the popular culture of 1959.Harnar premiered The 1959 Broadway Songbook as his debut engagement at the Algonquin Hotels Oak Room in 1991. The program was later recorded live for Original Cast Records, televised nationally on PBS, and presented in major engagements across the United States and London.Jeff Harnar is a multi-award-winning cabaret, concert, and recording artist whose appearances include the Cole Porter and Nol Coward Centennial Galas at Carnegie Hall. His PBS broadcasts include The 1959 Broadway Songbook with Alex Rybeck, American Songbook Live from NJPAC: Stephen Sondheim, and Remember: Songs of the Holidays with KT Sullivan. Recent recordings include Jeff Harnar Sings Sammy Cahn: The Second Time Around (PS Classics), as well as the MAC Award-winning albums A Collective Cy and I Know Things Now: My Life in Sondheims Words. Harnar is also a Broadway World, MAC, and Bistro Award-winning director.
