To celebrate Joy Division's 50th anniversary, the world's best JD tribute band "Joy Division Undercover" is doing a club tour in 2026. Joy Division Undercover is known for its authentic renditions and is adored by a steadily growing audience (even beyond their own borders). Long-time fans, as well as many young kids discovering Joy Division's music for the first time, travel from far and wide to attend the concerts. Their performances are praised for their intense atmosphere and respectful tribute to the original band, with vocals that sound uncannily similar to Ian Curtis's. No cheesy impersonation band with costumes, but a full commitment to the musical legacy. During this tour of concert venues, they will perform "The Best of" live from Joy Division for an hour and a half. The band consists of Dutch musicians who are pure fans of JD, including singer Erny Green (The Eternal/Kaspar Baum) and guitarist Henk Koorn (Hallo Venray).
In 2026 it will be fifty years since the iconic British post-punk band Joy Division was formed. What began as an obscure band in Salford, Manchester, grew into one of the most influential bands in music history. Despite their short existence (1976–1980), their dark, emotionally charged music remains a lasting source of inspiration for generations of artists worldwide.
Joy Division was formed (initially as "Warsaw") in the autumn of 1976 by Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook, later joined by Stephen Morris and singer Ian Curtis. With their raw and hypnotic sounds, combined with Curtis's intense lyrics and expressive stage presence, the band brought new depth to the punk and rock scene. Their two studio albums, Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980), are considered milestones in music history, partly due to the groundbreaking productions of producer Martin Hannet and the efforts of the indie label avant la lettre “Factory Records”. After the tragic death of Ian Curtis on May 18, 1980, the rest of the band continued successfully as New Order, known in part for their worldwide hit "Blue Monday."
Joy Division's influence can be heard in countless diverse genres, from goth rock and new wave to alternative rock and electronic music. Bands and artists who have openly drawn inspiration from Joy Division include The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Editors, U2, Interpol, and others.
Their influence is also noticeable outside of music, for example, in fashion, design, and film. The iconic album cover for "Unknown Pleasures," designed by Peter Saville, has become a classic cultural symbol.
