Searchlight Pictures has revealed the first official trailer for BEHEMOTH!, a new film starring Pedro Pascal and directed by Tony Gilroy.
The trailer follows Alex Serian (Pedro Pascal), a renowned cellist who returns home to Los Angeles for the first time in 20 years. Burdened by unresolved emotional baggage, Serian strikes up a romance with a fellow orchestra member (Eva Victor), visits his brother (Will Arnett), and attempts to move on from his former partner (Olivia Wilde). Interspersed throughout are scenes of Serian rehearsing and performing with remarkable poise and focus, cello in hand.
Pascal did actually play the cello for the film, too — though by his account, he’s not particularly great yet. He recently discussed learning the instrument during an appearance on the final season of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, describing it as “the hardest thing [he’s] ever done.” “I was watching your bass player [Endea Owens],” Pascal told Colbert. “She’s fantastic. Amazing. That is a good vibrato. She’s in third position… she is jumping down to fourth. I was so proud of myself [for recognizing that].”
“How is it on your fingers?,” Colbert asked. “I’ve got the calluses. That sort of made me proud,” said Pascal. “Yeah, I’m a great cello lip-sync-er. If you heard it, it would sound like I was killing an animal.” Finally, Colbert asked, “On a scale of 1 to Yo-Yo Ma, where do you rank?” “In terms of sound? Below the earth,” Pascal quipped. “But I can make it look good.” Based on the trailer for BEHEMOTH!, that’s certainly true. Watch it below.
BEHEMOTH! will arrive in theaters on December 4th, 2026. It was written and directed by Tony Gilroy, known for his film Michael Clayton as well as being the creator and head writer for Andor, Disney+’s standout Star Wars series. In addition to Pascal, Arnett, Wilde, and Victor making up the cast, BEHEMOTH! also features Hank Azaria, Matthew Lillard, JoBeth Williams, Alex Swinton, Margarita Levieva, and more.
The film’s official logline reads: “A gifted cellist, Alex Serian (Pedro Pascal), returns home to Los Angeles after 20 years on the road. Music, which has been the constant, all-consuming river of his life, begins to carry Alex on an adventure that will change him forever.”
