Kelvin Evans, the man who was charged with stealing unreleased Beyoncé music from members of her team last year, took a guilty plea on Tuesday, May 12th. As reported by WXIA-TV, Evans was facing up to six years in prison, but has now been given two years under the deal.
He pleaded guilty to one count of entering an automobile, for which he received a five-year sentence of two years in prison and three years on probation. The second count, criminal trespass, was merged into the first count. Evans is not eligible for parole.
While Evans will get credit for time served since being arrested in September, he also has a previous parole violation and more than a half-dozen other similar break-in cases. As a result, it is currently unclear exactly how much time he will actually have to serve in jail.
The break-in to a rental vehicle belonging to Beyoncé’s choreographer and one of her dancers took place in Atlanta on July 8th, inside a parking garage at the Ayla apartment building. At the time, the artist was on her “COWBOY CARTER TOUR.”
An incident report stated that the stolen items included jump drives with watermarked music, footage plans for the show, and past and future setlists.
According to warrants, Evans was tracked down by pinging a pair of stolen Apple AirPods Max headphones and reviewing surveillance footage that captured the break-in.
