Alt-pop singer d4vd has been arrested on murder charges in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose body was found in his impounded Tesla in September 2025.
d4vd (whose real name is David Anthony Burke) was taken into custody Thursday, April 16th, and is being held without bail. On Monday, April 20th, he was formally charged with first-degree murder, as well as sexual assault against an individual under 14 years old and for mutilating the human remains of a body. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty.
Prosecutors allege that after Rivas Hernandez “threatened to expose his criminal conduct and devastate his musical career,” Burke “murdered her, cut up her body and stuffed her body in two bags that were placed in the front trunk of his car.”
Rivas Hernandez’s decomposed remains were discovered inside the Tesla on September 8th. The vehicle, registered to the artist, was parked at a Hollywood tow yard when the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of a foul odor. Rivas Hernandez was later identified through forensic testing. Authorities noted she had a distinctive “Shhh” tattoo on her right index finger, which matches one of d4vd’s own tattoos.
When announcing the discovery, the LAPD said it was “very likely” that Rivas Hernandez had been “dead for several weeks” before her body was found, noting the Tesla had been parked in the same location for that duration before being towed.
Rivas Hernandez was reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California, last year, and was last seen on April 5th, 2024, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Following the discovery of Rivas Hernandez’s body, d4vd canceled the last three dates of his US tour, and his label put a hold on all promotional activities, including the planned release of a deluxe album. He also has been dropped by his record label, Interscope.
