Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan has suffered a “medical emergency,” leading the legendary rock band to postpone its next couple shows.

Gillan has been hospitalized in the midst of Deep Purple’s fall UK/European tour, with the band issuing the following statement on Saturday:

“With great disappointment, Deep Purple must announce that they are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at the QI Arena (Leipzig) and tomorrow evening at the Sporthalle (Hamburg). This comes as a result of a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, which has resulted in his current hospitalisation.

We understand that this announcement comes at short notice and share the disappointment of all our wonderful fans that we are unable to perform in Leipzig and Hamburg.

Deep Purple and their team are focused on finding a suitable time to reschedule both these shows.

All tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled dates.

With the greatest love and respect…

Deep Purple x”

Beyond the two postponed shows, Deep Purple’s tour is currently scheduled to resume Wednesday, November 4th, in Berlin, Germany, and run through a November 25th show in London. After that. the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band is slated to embark on a Latin American tour in December.

We’d like to send our best wishes to Ian Gillan for a speedy recovery. See Deep Purple’s announcement below.
