Drowning Pool were set to embark on their first-ever South American tour this week, but the outing has been canceled, with organizers citing “low ticket sales.” However, Drowning Pool themselves blamed the cancellation on “logistics.”

The tour was set to kick off this Wednesday, May 20th, in Bogotá, Colombia, and run through a May 31st show in Curitiba, Brazil. Just a few days ago, a statement from tour organizers read (translated from Spanish to English):

“OFFICIAL STATEMENT: We announce that Drowning Pool’s South American tour has officially been canceled. The decision was made jointly by all local promoters involved due to low ticket sales recorded in all cities on the tour. Customers who have already purchased tickets must request a refund directly from the company responsible for ticket sales in their respective city. For more information and specific guidance regarding the refund process, please contact the local promoter. We appreciate your understanding.”

Prior to that announcement, Drowning Pool were asked about the South American tour during an appearance on the podcast Teaser Talk, with guitarist C.J. Pierce responding as follows (as transcribed by ThePRP):

“We were going to be doing South America. That just got put on hold… I was looking forward to going. Just the timing with it all, I’m hoping that that comes back up towards the end of the year because that’s supposed to be in a week and a half from now, and all the the logistics weren’t put together for us to get there in time. There’s a lot of, you know, again, red tape and stuff like that because we didn’t meet the deadline for it. So, I’m hoping to go back. Love South America. We really want to play there. I want to go so bad. But yeah, that’s going to be it.”

Singer Ryan McCombs added:

“Yeah, we’re definitely pushing towards making it happen. Because I mean, it’s when you’ve been allowed to do this this long, and people have kept you in the game this long, one side of that is it’s very rare that you see something come up on your calendar that you haven’t done before. And that’s there was several countries there that we had never — I know I’d never been to before. So I was really looking forward to that. So we’re definitely pushing towards that.”

Pierce followed that up with, “Sorry, South America, we’re trying to get there.”

Unfortunately, a number of acts are experiencing low ticket sales this year, with artists like Post Malone and The Pussycat Dolls among those announcing cancellations, as detailed in Consequence’s feature “Blue Dot Fever: When Tours Can’t Sell, They Bail.”

While the South American outing was nixed, Drowning Pool will still embark on a UK/European tour throughout June. They’ll return to the States for a handful of festival dates and one-off shows in July, August, and October, including Sacramento’s Aftershock fest on October 2nd, with tickets available here.

Meanwhile, Drowning Pool are releasing a 25th anniversary edition of their 2001 album Sinner, which yielded the massive hit “Bodies.” The reissue will be available in various vinyl formats and as an expanded digital release on June 5th, and can be pre-ordered here.
