Madonna has released an ambitious and, at times, raunchy short film compositing the first six songs of her forthcoming and highly anticipated album Confessions II. Stream it below.
The roughly 13-minute film embodies the audaciousness the queen of pop is known for, depicting across several scenes women blasting lasers from their genitals, wild set-pieces and to-be-expected excellence in choreography while Madonna leads us through a feverish vision, defying the passage of time, and proving she still knows what it takes to stand out and be true to herself as well as the magnetism that made her a star.
The film, directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase, known collectively as TORSO, debuted Friday, June 4th at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Madonna discussed the project. Madonna spent approximately six months on the film, making it in New York, Los Angeles and London, while she also worked on Confessions II, as reported by Rolling Stone. “I like the idea of film, because I’m a ‘film-phile,’ a cinephile, and film has inspired a good part of my life,” Madonna said at the Tribeca Q&A, moderated by Anderson Cooper. “Somehow [the word] video seems cheap. It was good when it was just MTV and me.”
The film’s soundtrack is made up of already unveil singles, “I Feel So Free,” and “Bring Your Love,” a duet with Sabrina Carpenter, as well as previously unreleased songs “Good for the Soul,” “One Step Away,” “Danceteria,” and “Read My Lips.” Cameos in the video include Carpenter, Odessa A’zion, Benedict Cumberbatch, Honey Dijon, Debi Mazar, Julia Garner, Richard E. Grant, Kate Moss, and Lourdes Leon, Madonna’s daughter, among others.
Confessions II, a sequel to Madonna’s acclaimed 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor, comes out July 3rd.
