An X post shared by the Netflix UK & Ireland account shared has come under fire after accusations by MAGA influencers that it was intended to ridicule the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The post, however, appears to have nothing to do with the event, and was instead a reference intended for Guy Ritchie fans who had recently watched Season 2 of the Netflix series The Gentlemen.
Below, you can watch the scene from The Gentlemen that the screenshots came from — the scene involves Eddie (Theo James) marrying Italian countess Isabella (Benedetta Porcaroli), with the jilted Susie (Kaya Scodelario) exiting the cathedral. The caption “Nearly did himself a neck injury” refers to the speed with which Eddie turned his head to see Susie leave. The scene, to be clear, involves zero references to guns or assassination of any kind (also the title of this video is inaccurate; Susie is not in tears).
The post did occur on the one year anniversary of Kirk’s death, leading to folks including Matt Walsh, Kevin Sorbo, and Libs of TikTok leading a mass call for people to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. Should people choose not to do so, The Gentlemen Season 2 is available for streaming now.
