Universal Pictures’ new Miami Vice movie has locked in its Tubbs and Crockett, with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler signed on for the respective roles. Now titled Miami Vice ’85, it will be shot in IMAX and open in theaters on August 6th, 2027.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), the film is inspired by the pilot and first season of the 1980s TV series and will take place during that time period.
Jordan will play Miami undercover detective Ricardo Tubbs, originally played by Philip Michael Thomas, while Butler will step into the role of Sonny Crockett, famously portrayed by Don Johnson.
Production is set to begin later this year, with Dan Gilroy penning the script based on the characters created by Anthony Yerkovich, who executive-produced the original series with Michael Mann.
