Tom Petty’s longtime home in Malibu, California, has sold for $11.2 million. The rock legend had purchased the house in 1998, and lived there until his death at the age of 66 in 2017.

The sale came following a series of price cuts after initially being listed for $19 million in 2024, then $15.5 million this past July, and most recently $12.99 million. Despite the lower sale price, it marks a sizable increase from the $3.75 that Petty paid for it in 1998.

The 8,744 square-foot Mediterranean-style home is set on a 2.6 acre estate, and boasts seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. A separate guest house had been converted into a personal music studio by Petty, while other features include a swimming pool and a basketball court.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the home was purchased by psychoanalyst and author Stephen Slade Tien. It was sold by Myra Nourmand & Levi Freemen of Nourmand & Associated Beverly Hills.

Sadly, Petty was found unresponsive at the house in October 2017, and later was pronounced dead at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica. His death was ruled an accidental overdose of fentanyl and other opioids.

Back in 2019, Petty’s lake house in Santa Monica sold for $4 million.
