Helena Bonham Carter is out of a starring role on HBO’s hit series The White Lotus, Deadline reports.

Series creator and showrunner Mike White decided to recast the Oscar-nominated actress barely a week into production for season four of the show.

“With filming just underway on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” an HBO spokesperson told Deadline. “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”

The latest season of the murder mystery dramedy will be set in France during the Cannes Film Festival with filming taking place on the French riviera.

Carter topped producers’ wishlist, but as she shot her first scenes, White “felt that her character as originally conceived was not what it should be,” sources told Deadline. The role is rumored to be central to the new season.

The White Lotus has created a hit formula of putting phenomenal casts into luxurious international locations where wealthy, jaded characters unravel amid a murder.

Season four is set to follow the same recipe. Heather Graham, Sandra Bernhard, Steve Coogan, Kumail Nanjiani, and Rosie Perez among others will be in the newest season.

Consequence praised season three’s selection of actors and performances but critiqued the season for having decreased depth.

Seasons three featured Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, and Aimee Lou Wood.
