Jesse Malin‘s Silver Manhattan theatrical show will have an off-Broadway run at the newly minted Bowery Palace in New York City.
Due to high demand following the initial workshop residency at the Gramercy Theatre, the show will move off-Broadway for a six-week run, February 18th through March 29th, at the freshly renovated Bowery Palace at 327 Bowery (currently the location of Bowery Electric, which closes January 30th).
Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster, with performances scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. ET and Sunday at 7 p.m. ET each week.
The 90-minute Silver Manhattan stars Malin (backed by his full band) and tells “the coming-of-age story of a young kid from a broken home who found life in the streets of New York City.” The production will feature special guests throughout the run, along with nightly pre-show gatherings. Written by Malin and Lauren Ludwig, the show is produced by Tony-nominated ArKtype/Tommy Kriegsmann (Illinoise) and David Bason, directed by Ellie Heyman, with music direction by Tony-nominated Justin Craig (Stereophonic), and Derek Cruz.
“Silver Manhattan is the most personal thing I’ve ever done on stage,” Malin stated in a press release. “I want to run it in a smaller theater, and look into the eyes of everyone in the room. I have so much history on the Bowery — I played CBGB’s as a kid, and grew up in the neighborhood. My grandfather sold liquor to the bars up and down the Bowery. It’s nice to go back to the scene of the crime. There are a lot of beautiful ghosts and spirits on this sacred ground.”
Added Malin, reflecting on the spinal stroke that left him partially paralyzed: “In 2023, before my accident, I was on this huge tour. Since I was 12, that’s how I made my living — traveling from city to city on this pirate ship, with my band, this gang. Out of necessity, I created Silver Manhattan, a way I could bring the world to me. Come into my neighborhood, to my New York. Music has always been the best medicine.”
Malin has had a 30-plus-year music career as frontman of New York City punk band D Generation and as a prolific solo artist. On April 7th, he’ll release his first book, Almost Grown: A New York Memoir, which has served as inspiration for the theatrical production.
