Mike Patton opened up about what now stands as Faith No More‘s final tour during an appearance on Consequence‘s Kyle Meredith With… podcast.

During the conversation, Kyle asked Patton whether there was a “sense of closure” during Faith No More’s 2016 tour, given that it now appears that the band has broken up.

“I didn’t really think so at the time, but, yeah, maybe,” replied Patton. “And I think that we all kind of felt it, but it was unspoken.”

At the time, Faith No More hadn’t necessarily made plans to disband.

Patton added, “And it’s funny: when you’ve been in a band or a musical situation for a period of time, you always, in the back of your head, you’re kind of thinking, ‘Well, maybe this is it.’ And I don’t mind that feeling. I don’t see it as a sad thing. I see it as being present and being able to really appreciate it while it’s happening.”

As it stands, Faith No More’s last show remains an August 20th, 2016, concert at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The band was slated to play gigs in 2021, but scrapped plans due to Patton’s post-pandemic mental health issues.

Patton also questioned why Faith No More have always been seen as his “main band” while his other bands are viewed as side projects.

“I’d never really understood, and I had to figure this out very early on, was the concept of a side project, that’s assuming that there’s a main one,” said Patton. “And for me, I really never had one. There were projects like Faith No More where I spent more time on, in terms of touring and promoting, quote-unquote, if you will, but everything that I’ve done was of equal importance to me. They just weren’t viewed that way. And the public, for whatever reason, needs to have a hierarchy kind of built in there just to make themselves feel better about it, I guess. I don’t know.”

In April 2025, drummer Mike Bordin claimed that Patton was “unwilling” to do any more FNM shows, while keyboardist Roddy Bottum said in late 2024 that the band was on “semi-permanent hiatus” before essentially declaring the band defunct in an interview this past October.

It hasn’t been for a lack of creativity on Patton’s part, as the singer has been involved in multiple musical projects since Faith No More’s final gigs. He recently collaborated on an album with the Avett Brothers. A tour in support of the LP launches in late March, with tickets available here.

Patton also just announced a reunion with his band Tomahawk, who will embark on their first tour in 13 years this summer. An artist pre-sale starts Wednesday, February 25th, at 10 a.m. local time using the code FLASHBACK, while a general on-sale begins Friday, February 27th, at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
