Kim Gordon, best known for her work in Sonic Youth, is an American musician born in 1953 in Rochester, New York. Gordon was raised in Los Angeles, California, where her father was a professor at UCLA. Following graduation from LA's Otis College of Art and Design, she moved to New York City to begin an art career, and became involved in the no wave scene. She then formed Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore in 1981. The two would marry in 1984.
In addition to her work with Sonic Youth, Gordon would participate in other artistic projects, such as the musical group Free Kitten and the fashion line X-Girl.
Following the breakup of Sonic Youth in 2011 and her divorce from Moore, Gordon would form the experimental duo Body/Head with Bill Nace. Following the release of their debut, she would go on to participate in the project Glitterbust, before embarking on a solo career. Her debut solo record released in 2019, No Home Record. Her third solo album is slated for release in March 2024, titled The Collective.
